Objective

The AMBULATE IMPACT study will determine how earlier Time to Ambulation (TTA), Total Post Procedure Time (TPPT), and Time to Discharge (TTD) can impact patient flow through the hospital as well as the economics (facility and resource costs) of post-procedure care in AF Ablations.

Research Purpose

  • Clinical and Operational Factors
    • Understand clinical factors, such as patient comorbidities that impact patient TTA, TPPT and TTD.
    • Understand operational factors, such as resource and staff use, that impact patient TTA, TPPT and TTD. These factors will be measured at the location of each potential phase of care: electrophysiology (EP) lab, recovery room and the general ward.
  • Economic Considerations
    • Facility costs associated with catheter-based procedure recovery
    • Resource costs (equipment, supplies, medication) associated with catheter-based procedure recovery
    • Complication costs associated with catheter-based procedure recovery.

Study Approach

Precision Health Economics (PHE), a recognized leader in healthcare economics, embarked upon a mixed methods study to quantify the reduction on healthcare resources and costs via semi-structured in-depth interviews of hospital staff along with in-depth analysis of the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP) database.
